Legal Process Improvement Training For Teams

I train teams about how to better understand and improve the processes which support their work.

Sometimes the teams will provide me with some information of the processes they want to consider, which is then used as background material during the training.

A common differentiator between focused team training and my public legal process improvement and certification courses is that the teams often want to spend less time discussing the background to legal process improvement techniques – they prefer to dive-in and discuss the problems they are currently facing.

Another differentiator is that the teams training normally lasts one day, rather than two days compared with the certification course.

Facilitated workshopping considering real world problems

During the training day we spend most of our time working in Miro, the online collaboration platform.

I facilitate guided exercises which help the team understand their current issues better and help them develop and prioritise a range of potential solutions.

Historically lawyers, especially those working in private practice law firms, do not like spending time working on process improvement activity because this is usually non-chargeable work.

Hence it is very important that those running process improvement exercises are able to make the best use of the limited time they have working with practising lawyers.

I show how to do this, i.e how to get everyone to focus, contribute, and do meaningful work together in a short space of time.

Training Course Takeaways

It should be remembered that although I am happy to focus on specific team issues and processes whenever possible, this is a training course rather than a consultancy engagement.

Hence the ultimate aim is to empower the team so they feel confident reviewing and revising their processes by themselves, by applying the tools and techniques covered during the course.

After completing my training, teams will have the collective ability to:

  • manage legal process improvement projects properly
  • understand and represent current using process mapping
  • analyse current processes
  • re-design current processes where required and / or create wholly new processes
  • drive and manage change initiatives to ensure all new and updated processes are implemented properly.
